GEBHARDT CHEETAH eco

GEBHARDT sets new benchmarks in energy efficiency with the new Cheetah eco. Due to the optimized construction of the Cheetah eco, weight is significantly reduced, on the one hand significantly reducing the energy consumption of the device and on the other hand retaining consistent high capacity levels.

The new generation of AS/RS

GEBHARDT developed the Cheetah eco as part of a  cooperation project with the Department of Engineering in mechanical Engineering (Konstruktion im Maschinen- und Anlagenbau - KIMA) at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. Based on the Cheetah speed model, the Cheetah eco is radically lightweight while maintaining high structural integrity. The on-board Omega drive ensures a low-maintenance operation. The goal of the collaboration was an ASRS, which requires reduced investment and operating costs, and at the same time a high throughput – Provide availability and optimum space utilization.

 

Durable and energy efficient

Since it was not possible with previously used technologies and materials to bring all These requirements into one solution, new answers had to be found. Using advanced simulation software and innovative materials, the Cheetah eco ASRS was created. The special feature of this pioneering storage and retrieval system is that despite significantly reduced weight, the pendulum of the mast was not increased.

 

Since the mast has minimal swing, an anti-oscillation drive is not necessary, which in turn allows for higher throughput. The lightweight construction of the Cheetah and in particular its mast, modern FEMsimulations on both static and dynamic where constantly performed and optimized. Focus here was the adhesive bonding of the individual elements of the mast, which meet the requirements of the Cheetah in terms of durability and special load cases had to meet (e.g. emergency stop). Through the new bonding technique, expensive 1 welding costs are eliminated.

A key element for efficiency and throughput

Due to the lower mass, smaller and therefore more economical drive systems can be used.  These factors, combined with the unnecessary antipendul drive for a reduction of investment costs. This means, reduced weight, less high maintenance components, and the machine uses  less electricity. By reducing the wear and power requirements, considerable savings in operating costs can be achieved with the Cheetah eco.

In comparison to the GEBHARDT Cheetah speed, the Cheetah eco has a lower acceleration and a lower maximum speed. Due to the stiffness of the mast structure and the optimized design, it is possible with the Cheetah eco, to achieve a significantly better return time. Thereby various sequential movements can be performed more effectively, and thus the lower maximum Speed and acceleration are compensated. This is another building block for high efficiency.

Another advantage of the weight reduction of the Cheetah eco is the significantly advantageous use of space. Nearly all components can be made lighter and smaller, since they are exposed to the lower total weight and thus, a smaller load. Consequently, the entire device is smaller and  has significantly reduced dimensions, which improves the critical "use-of-space" efficiency.
